Mike Clark, the American jazz-funk drummer best known for his work with Herbie Hancock’s Headhunters in the 1970s, joins Robert Shahid to discuss his new release, Standard Deviations.
Clark gained international attention for his drumming on Hancock’s Thrust album and is often referred to as the “Tony Williams of Funk.” Though rooted in funk, Clark sees himself as a jazz drummer and continues to be a significant figure in the genre.
Shahid calls the new album a “masterpiece of musicianship, improvisation, and creativity,” and one of the best he’s heard in years.
