There Goes My Hero works to grow the bone marrow registry, founded by two leukemia survivors saved by donors. The organization brings its mission into communities, hosting drives at local events, colleges, and workplaces to help people sign up.
One of its core initiatives, Color the Registry, addresses the national shortage of donors of color. Just 23% of African American blood cancer patients find a matching donor.
Geneau Thames, Esq., board member of There Goes My Hero and Vice President, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary at Harford Mutual Insurance Group joins Deanna Neal for a conversation. She’s also a leukemia survivor who knows firsthand how life-changing a match can be.
