(WEAA)— On Thursday, Dr. Karsonya “Kaye” Wise Whitehead received the Vernon Jarret Medal for Journalistic Excellence at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.
The Vernon Jarrett Medal– named in honor of the late Vernon Jarrett, a pioneering African-American journalist and creator of the NAACP's Act-So program– is awarded annually in recognition of exemplary reporting on Black life in America.
During the ceremony, the award-winning talk show host delivered words of encouragement and shared what keeps her motivated through her journalism journey.
Dr. Kaye is the first broadcaster to win the award.
