Author of "Madness: Race and Insanity in a Jim Crow Asylum" talks mass incarceration, history of psychiatry

Emmy award-winning journalist Antonia Hylton joins Dr. Kaye to discuss her book, Madness: Race and Insanity in a Jim Crow Asylum.

Madness explores the history of Crownsville Hospital, one of the last segregated asylums.

Situated in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, the hospital's campus remains standing to this day.

In the book, Hylton connects the mistreatment of Black individuals in our present mental healthcare system to the legacy of slavery.
