LOS ANGELES — Faraji Muhammad, a former host on WEAA and current producer for Tavis Smiley at KBLA, lives in Hollywood and is witnessing firsthand the devastating impact of the wildfires sweeping across California.

For several days, firefighters have been battling to control a series of major fires that have killed at least seven people and destroyed around 10,000 structures from the Pacific Coast to Pasadena.

Muhammad shares how the fires have turned the skies orange and the air quality is so poor that residents are wearing masks to shield themselves from the harmful particles.

In response to the dangerous conditions, he says, 19 school districts have shut down.

According to the Associated Press, more than 150,000 people were under evacuation orders Friday, officials said.
