Travis Mitchell, senior vice president and chief content officer at Maryland Public Television, joins WEAA’s Dr. Kaye to discuss MPT’s HBCU Week, which highlights the history and legacy of Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

From Sept. 8–14, MPT will feature 32 hours of primetime programming dedicated to HBCU-themed films.

Dr. Kaye will co-host a feature focusing on HBCUs in the D.C., Maryland and Virginia region.

On Tuesday, the network will present the national debut of Becoming Thurgood: America’s Social Architect, a documentary chronicling Thurgood Marshall’s journey from Baltimore through HBCUs to his pivotal role with the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. The film also explores how the civil rights movement was underestimated.

On Thursday, MPT will air a film highlighting women’s contributions to the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, the nation’s oldest HBCU athletic conference.
