WEAA honors the life and legacy of journalist Charles Robinson

WEAA honors Charles Robinson, a renowned journalist who passed away recently.

Robinson held several leadership roles within the National Association of Black Journalists and was widely regarded as a mentor in the newsroom.

Born on Oct. 20, 1956, in Richmond, Virginia, Robinson was raised in Baltimore.

Throughout his career, he covered local, state, and national news, with a focus on Maryland state politics until his final days.

Robinson was also a regular guest on WEAA’s Master Class, where he shared his extensive knowledge of musicians and artists spanning decades.

He received the NABJ Lifetime Achievement Award in 2021. In 2016, Maryland Public Television honored Robinson with a Walk of Fame star for his significant on-air contributions.

During the tribute, Dr. Kaye and guests shared personal anecdotes and professional experiences highlighting Robinson’s dedication to journalism, mentorship, and community service.

Dean Jackie Jones described Robinson as ubiquitous and steadfast, always ready to help students and colleagues.

Travis Mitchell reflected on their 35-year friendship and Robinson’s significant contributions to Maryland Public Television.

Robert Shahid and others emphasized Robinson’s expertise, mentorship, and lasting impact on the Black press.
