Baltimore moves into 'Phase 2' of winter storm cleanup

Faith Leach, Chief Administrative Officer for the Mayor’s Office says Baltimore is now in what she calls, "Phase 2" of cleanup and recovery following the winter storm.

City crews have switched out heavy snow equipment for more nimble vehicles to clear as many sidewalks, bus stops and alleyways as possible. Leach says accumulated snow and ice prompted the city to rent a snow melter, now operating near Ravens Stadium, to speed up removal efforts. The machine melts snow into water, filters debris through internal agitators, and sends the water into the sewer system.

Leach also reminded residents that alleyways are a shared responsibility, with homeowners responsible for clearing their portion. To help, the city has launched an alley cleanup operation to support residents and improve access across neighborhoods.
