Baltimore City Councilman Mark Conway is pushing back against his removal as chair of the public safety committee, calling it political retaliation tied to a dispute over the Inspector General's access to records.
Conway directly disputes claims made by Council President Zeke Cohen, who alleged Conway missed 90% of budget hearings, asked no questions and failed to pass legislation. Conway says he is not a member of the budget committee and maintains regular communication with both the police and fire commissioners. He also points to successfully passing a bill addressing chronic absenteeism in Baltimore City schools as evidence he has delivered results.
On budget hearings, Conway acknowledges he did not attend all of them but argues oversight is conducted through public safety committee meetings held every other week.
The conversation also addresses a recent ruling by Judge Pamela White ordering the city to restore Inspector General Isabel Cumming's access to records and honor subpoenas issued since 2025.
