Baltimore’s new police budget, challenges of implementing community policing


(WEAA)— Mayor Brandon Scott announced a $3.3 billion budget proposal that would increase the city’s police budget by nearly $5 million.

Under the proposal, the Baltimore Police Department will eliminate 30 vacant positions and add 35 civilian positions to help detectives investigate crimes.

Melvin Russell, retired Baltimore City Police Deputy Commissioner joins Two Way Talk to discuss the budget as well as the challenges and advantages of community policing.
