'Morgan was where I was supposed to be’| MSU Director of University Bands retires, reflects on decades-long career

(WEAA)—Melvin Miles, Director of University Bands and Instructor of Music at Morgan State University is retiring after nearly 50 years.

He is also the conductor of the Morgan State University Symphonic Winds, Concert Band and the MSU Jazz Ensemble.

Miles has served on the HBCU’s faculty since 1973.

A native of Baltimore, Maryland, the musician attended Frederick Douglass High School and received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degrees in Music Education from Morgan State University.

A retirement gala will be held on June 25 at MSU's Tyler Ballroom located in the Student center.
