Retired Baltimore officer shot by wife is accused of assaulting children at her daycare

Two Way Talk conversation with Aaron Wright, newsroom intern at The Baltimore Banner.

(Owings Mills, MD) -- A retired Baltimore City police officer is under arrest, charged with child sex abuse.

Baltimore County officials say 57-year-old James Weems was arrested days after he was shot by his wife in a D.C. hotel.

Weems remains hospitalized in police custody in D.C. pending extradition to Maryland.

Weems is accused of sexually abusing as many as three children while working at The Kidz Kastle Child Development Center in Owings Mills.

The daycare center is operated by his wife who is under arrest for shooting him last week in D.C. Police say the former officer faces assault and sexual abuse against a minor but additional charges are possible in the case.

Weems' wife reportedly told investigators about her husband's actions after learning that he sexually abused a child at her center.

Shanteari Weems faces a hearing on Friday in connection with shooting her husband in D.C. last week.
