Two Way Talk segment aired March 6, 2024.

(WEAA)— Mike Gimbel, a former heroin addict and current advocate against drug use and addictive behaviors joins Two Way Talk for a conversation.

During the interview, Gimbel briefly shares details on his upcoming HBO documentary about a 1960s drug treatment program that turned into a violent cult before discussing a bill to legalize online gambling in Maryland.

He shares that he recently testified against the legislation and argues that this accessibility poses a considerable risk, especially for families and children who lack the financial means to participate in gambling.

"But what they started doing recently was passing laws that would legalize what I consider dangerous and destructive and addicted behaviors", Gimbel says.

The advocate also expresses concerns with the government for potentially using gambling as a revenue source without transparently disclosing the destination of the funds, despite assurances to allocate them for educational purposes.

He emphasizes the need for more parental responsibility and criticizes the lack of support systems for addicts.
