Who is Merika Amoy Ramocan-Ford?
Merika has been a WEAA volunteer since January 2023. Merika’s unique talent is one of the diaspora’s best, echoed through a rhythmic island accent.. She is a world traveled storyteller sharing the rich culture of West Indies along with the history of iconic music artists and activists working toward positive change.
This WEAA 88.9 Voice Over talent is often client preferred. Voicing many products and segment features on “Mornings with Mykel.
Merika has a BA in Media & Communication from the University of the West Indies (Kingston, Jamaica). Merika has become so fond of the campus and people she has met at Morgan State University that she is currently exploring PhD programs here. She has been a regular volunteer at the Loch Raven VA Medical Center, serving as a Red Coat Ambassador, since January as well.
When she is not volunteering, Merika participates in ministry, singing, dancing, and evangelizing, at her local church. Jamaican born, she loves celebrating her Caribbean heritage and her multi-ethnic lineage through international travel, food, music, and dance. Merika describes herself as an art enthusiast because she loves collecting and creating paintings, ceramics, sculptures, textiles, and jewelry from her travels. To her, art is more than something pretty, it has a therapeutic quality.
Merika is very family-oriented. She comes from a large family with her only child, a son, being the center of her joy! She hopes to grow her family, in the near future, with a “June” wedding and is already making plans for her fairytale event. Her faith gives her assurance and smiles as she shares with me, “For whoever finds me finds life and obtains the favor of the LORD'' (Proverbs 8:35).
