WEAA’s 2015 lecture series will begin at Center Stage with a panel discussion broadcast live during the Blacktop Xchange Sports Report from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 18. Hosts and veteran journalists Jerry Bembry and Ali Danois will moderate a discussion on athletes’ response to and activism against social injustice, including discussion of contemporary athletes and their response to Ferguson, and activists from the Civil Rights era, such as Muhammad Ali and Malcolm X. One Night in Miami playwright Kemp Powers will be joined by Mark Anthony Neal, professor of African and African-American Studies at Duke University, and to-be-named panelists for the discussion.
