Fourth teen sentenced in Baltimore County Caprio case
Seventeen-year-old Darrell Ward was sentenced Monday to 30-years behind bars for his role in the death of Baltimore County officer Amy Caprio. County State's Attorney Scott Shellenberger says the sentence falls in line with the others in the case.Earlier this month, a judge handed down life sentences with all but 30 years suspended to another 17-year-old and a 19-year-old convicted of felony murder.
Ward addressed the court during sentencing, expressing remorse and saying he would change places with Officer Caprio if he could. Ward, Derrick Matthews and Eugene Genius were burglarizing a home in Perry Hall when getaway driver Dawnta Harris,17, ran over Caprio in a stolen Jeep. Harris was sentenced to life in prison while Matthews and Genius received 30-year terms.
