Washington, DC) -- Maryland 7th District Representative Kweisi Mfume has decided to pursue the role of Ranking Member on the U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.
The post was previously held by fellow Democrat Gerry Connolly of Virginia who passed away earlier this month.
In a letter to colleagues, Mfume said the dismantling of democracy at the hands of the Trump administration and his congressional enablers demands that Committee leadership meets the moment with "vigor, experience, principle and resolve."
Mfume says he believes he can offer leadership that is steady, strategic and deeply grounded in shared Democratic values.
