Police: Trooper injured in shooting during early morning traffic stop in Baltimore; Suspect sought

(BALTIMORE, MD) – Police are searching for a suspect who shot at a Maryland State trooper during a traffic stop early Tuesday morning.

Officials say around 3:30 a.m., the trooper from The Golden Ring Barrack attempted to stop an Infiniti at the intersection of Belle Avenue and Milford Avenue in Baltimore City.

According to a media release, when the trooper approached the driver side of the vehicle, the door slightly opened and shots were fired from the inside of the vehicle towards the trooper.

Police say the trooper, who is not being identified at the time, did not return fire.

The suspect fled the scene and the trooper was transported to a shock trauma center.

Police believe the suspect's "silver or gray" vehicle has dark windows, front end damage, broken headlights and is displaying partial license plates.

Troopers from the Criminal Enforcement Division, along with officers from the Baltimore Police Department and the Baltimore County Police Department, responded to the scene after hearing the emergency broadcast.

The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit is leading the investigation, which is being treated as an attempted murder of a law enforcement officer.

Authorities are asking anyone who can identify the driver or has information about the incident to call 410-653-4200. Callers may remain confidential.
