Howard County officers identified in fatal shooting of 25-year-old man

(Columbia, MD) -- The Maryland Attorney General's Office is identifying the officers involved in a fatal shooting that killed a 25-year-old Howard County man early Sunday morning.

The victim, Alexander Lamorie of Columbia, was killed just after midnight on March 1 near an apartment complex in the on Freetown Road.

According to the Attorney General's Independent Investigations Division (IID), officers responded to a 911 call from a man threatening to hurt himself. When officers arrived, they entered the building but did not locate anyone. As they exited, they saw a man approaching them from the parking lot carrying a knife.

Officers issued multiple commands to drop the weapon. When the man continued moving toward them, three officers fired their weapons, striking him. Officers rendered aid until EMS arrived, but Lamorie was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured.

The officers involved have been identified as Officer Joel Rodriguez, a two-year veteran; Officer Cody Bostic, a six-year veteran; and PFC Joseph Riebau, a 10-year veteran.

All three officers were equipped with body-worn cameras. The IID says footage is generally released within 20 business days, though that timeline may be extended to complete witness interviews, protect civilian identities, or allow the family to view the video first.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information, including cell phone or private surveillance video, is asked to contact the IID at (410) 576-7070.
