(WEAA) Jazz veteran trumpeter Sean Jones is a musical chameleon and is comfortable performing in any musical setting.
As a child, he would sing and perform with the church choir in his hometown of Warren, Ohio.
Sean transitioned from the drums to the trumpet at the early age of 10.
After recieving a master's degree from Rutger's University, Sean was offered a 6-month stint with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. That offer was the beginining of a musical relationship with Wynton Marsalis. Marsalis offered Sean a permanent position as lead trumpeter, a post he held from 2004 until 2010.
Sean has recorded and performed with many major figures in jazz, including Illinois Jacquet, Jimmy Heath, Frank Foster, Nancy Wilson, Dianne Reeves, Gerald Wilson and Marcus Miller. Sean was selected by Miller, Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter for their Tribute to Miles tour in 2011.
On Wednesday, December, 9, 2020, Sean joined WEAA Host Robert Shahid to share his musical journey and what it is like as an artist working during a pandemic.
