Dr. Samendra Sherchan, interim director of the Center for Urban and Coastal Climate Research and professor of environmental biotechnology and environmental health sciences at Morgan State University, joined WEAA's Dr. Kaye to discuss the ongoing hantavirus outbreak.

Dr. Sherchan explained the dangers of the virus, including the fatal Andes strain found in South America, which is notable for its human-to-human transmission.

The conversation covered symptoms to watch for, the importance of quarantine and active medical monitoring, and what steps to take if you suspect you may be infected.

Currently, there is no specific treatment or vaccine available for hantavirus.
