With so many new jazz CDs being released every week, you can trust Program and Music Director Marcellus Shepard to select the best new offerings. WEAA’s CD of the Month is carefully selected from hundreds of albums, and our hosts play selected tracks from the release throughout that month’s jazz programming. In addition, listeners have several opportunities throughout the month to win the CD and add it to their own collections.

April CD: Marcus Miller's Afrodeezia

The Superman of Soul, bassist Marcus Miller, is back on the scene with his brand new release, Afrodeeziahis debut for the Blue Note recording label. The album was inspired by his role as a UNESCO Artist For Peace, which took him all over the world. Miller recorded tunes on the CD from several locations, including Paris, Morocco, Rio de Janeiro, Los Angeles, and New Orleans.

In line with his last couple of projects, Miller continues to work with some of the jazz world's hottest young talent as the core of his band, including saxophonist Alex Han and guitarist Adam Agati, but he also has several guests on the CD, including vocalist Lalah Hathaway, pianist Robert Glasper, guitarist Keb’ Mo’, and trumpeter Etienne Charles. They all stretch out on a playlist that screams of world music influence.

Tune in all month long to hear selections from one of the top bassists in the game, Marcus Miller, on your source for cool jazz and more, WEAA 88.9 FM.
